1. Problem Definition

Takatuf14 team is the first team in Oman formed under Project Management Development Program sponsored by Takatuf Oman. The program main objectives are to pass at least one of the PMI certifications on the first attempt and to generate a favorable return on training investment for team members and their organizations. The program duration is three months and consists of two face to face sessions and 90 days distance learning. During the first face to face session the Takatuf14 team was formed in five days of the intensive program. In order to define leadership style of team, Tuckman Model used to verify the team position.

2. Development of the feasible alternatives

The Tukman Model was developed by Dr. Bruce Tuckman in 1965.  In the Tukman Model the developmental processes of the groups go through the following stages: Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing. The below graph represent those stages performance impact versus team effectiveness.

In Forming stage the team act as individuals and there is a lack of clarity about the team purpose and individual roles. Next, Storming stage some conflict arises as people begin to establish their place in the team. After that, Norming stage where a level of consensus and agreement within the team. There is clarity about individual roles and the role of the leader is to manage this. Finally, in Preforming stage the group has a clear strategy and shared vision. It can operate autonomously and resolve issues positively.

3. Development of the Outcome for Alternative

 

To verify the Takatuf14 team position in Tuckman model, the Donald Clark survey was used. All Takatuf14 team members answer the 32 survey questions. The below table summarizes the results.

4. Selection of Criteria

 

Using Delphi technique with P 90 for the data obtained from Takatuf14 team members through Donald Clark survey results to investigate the team stage.

The calculation above shows that Takatuf14 is in preforming stge.

 

5. Analysis and Comparison of Alternative

 

The results in Table 2 show close values in Forming, Storming and Norming Stages 26, 24, 26 respectively. This may reflect that the team is in storming stage since they are from different backgrounds and organizations. However, the Preforming score is quit higher which verify that most of Takatuf14 team is in preforming stage. Moreover, the team is has clear strategy and sheared vision.

 

 

6. Selection of the Preferred Alternative

 

Refer to Hersey and Blanchard’s Leadership Model, the four types of leaders are:

1. Telling (Forming).

2. Selling (Storming).

3. Participating (Norming).

4. Delegating (Performing)

From the Delphi Technique with P 90 Results of Takatuf14 the results indicate that delegating leadership style is the best alternative.

 

7. Performance Monitoring and the Post Evaluation of Results

 

Progress Monitoring is required to manage, improve and control team productivity. Takatuf14 team members are all from Oman and they forming stage was very fast to complete. However, storming stage reflected during first five days face to face sessions when a lot of ideas and conflicts popped up. Takatuf14 team was mature and already exposed to such situations. In professional way team come over this stage.

  1. HI Ahmed, nice job on your W1 posting, but for the future, be sure that when you cite any reference that the last name goes first, then first name. Your #3 reference should have been Graves, Stephen……

    Also you really should be trying to post your blogs earlier in the week rather than leaving them until the last minute……
